Back to school this week! Strangely, it feels good to be back into my routine. I’m sure I’ll be singing a different tune come November though… Here’s what I finished up in August:
First up, I reorganized under our bathroom sink. It is so much more functional now, and even four weeks later, looks exactly the same! Success.
Though not home related, I also shared my personalized mugs for my newlywed friends.
We Shaun also got his painting on and tackled two accent walls in our house! I was proud to have finally picked out a colour, but honestly, that’s about where my input stopped. So grateful!
Here’s how our kitchen looks now:
With some added new storage to balance out the other side:
We also used the same colour in our bedroom.
Ohh… Our bedroom. Though I’m happy with our new duvet cover,
I’ve been lacking inspiration on where to take the room next. I truly wanted to finish up for the Style Cure, but I felt like if I bought anything else, I would just regret wasting my money later. I think this a room that needs to come together gradually… I’ll just have to wait until I find the right accessories as time goes on. Do you ever find that’s the case for you? Just hitting a dead end and waiting until you know where you’d like to go next?
To end on a high note though, in our living room, I tackled my favourite project to date: our refinished credenza. I. Love. It.
The only problem of course is it makes all my other furniture pale in comparison. I definitely see some updates coming in the future…
Now that we’re feeling fully settled in our apartment, having been here for five months, let’s take a look at the To Do List I started with:
Kitchen and “Dining”
This is the one area that’s getting close to finished! Feels great to cross a few of these off…
Add one or two new rugs (Sigh… I did, except my dog ate it. I’ll be replacing it eventually…)
Paint an accent wall in the eating area
Make a bench and coordinating cushions I’ve opted against this one since we added a cart and baskets instead.
Hang salvaged wood shelves
Decide on artwork
Create storage systems: In progress! I have organized under the sink and our baking cupboard, but there are certainly other areas to tackle…
New: Possibly add a removable backsplash
- Buy an area rug (That is definitely not happening until my dog stops. eating. our. rugs.)
Buy storage boxes for our coffee tableI’ve decided against this one since I’ll eventually replace our coffee table anyway. Hang artwork Possibly paint an accent wall(I think our kitchen one is enough) Make drapes and curtain rods Refinish our recently purchased Craigslist hutch(I have, but honestly, I’m not entirely happy with it. It may change at some point in the future). Buy salvaged corbels or something similar for added characterI love the extra bit of character my antique credenza adds to the room.
- New: Replace our coffee table (possibly a DIY project in the works?)
- Replace our arm chair
- Hang floating shelves above the credenza?
Replace cabinet hardware(I’ll share shortly!) Build a (removable) mirror frame
- Replace the faucet (Maybe I will, maybe I won’t. It does seem a bit over the top since we don’t own the place…)
Create a storage system for under the sink Hang artwork
- Update the light fixture?
Hang extra shelves Add a small bathroom rug
- New: Replace our shower curtain?
Paint or stencil an accent wall
- Decide on art for above our headboard
- Build nightstands
- Full length mirror: either buy a new one or frame out our existing one: half way on this one. I did refinish ours, but it needs to be redone!
- New: Add in accessories
- Replace closet hardware
Buy a runner(I’ll be sharing soon!)
- Hang artwork
Add a shelf or small table as a landing spot for keys and other small items Create hall closet storage system
- New: Refinish our “landing strip” dresser
Just a few things! It’s the never ending list. Shaun worried that I would run out of projects in our home for my blog, but that’s clearly never happening. At least I feel like I’m making good progress!
