Hi there! I’m Lauren. I’m thrilled you’ve found my little website!
Welcome to my DIY diary about making our rental our own. Here I share my stories of creating and organizing spaces in our rental home in Vancouver, Canada. “L’amour chez nous” roughly translates to “love at our place”. I want to love the home I’m in now, make the most of it, but easily move on to the next place when we’re done.
Since graduating from university in 2010, I’ve managed a few awesome trips around Europe, Australia, and Asia (like the one in the photo above, taken in Bali, Indonesia) but am now in a much more settled place in my life. In 2015, I became a certified French Immersion teacher, moved into a new house, and got married! (Read more about our proposal, or to take a look at our engagement photos here.)
I have always loved design, but have never seemed to have money to spend on it. I’ve always been saving for something. First it was university, then travel, and now for a home and eventually, my masters. I didn’t let it go altogether (I certainly prefer spending over saving), but my lifestyle goals forced me to be more creative at home. Instead, I strive to DIY as much as I can.
My place is filled with chairs I’ve recovered, pieces I (or my lovely
boyfriend husband) have repainted, and photos that I’ve taken. I want my home to reflect us and be as budget and eco-friendly as possible.
I am lucky to live with two loves. My husband Shaun and I have been renting together for over three years. In October 2012, we added a new member to our duo, Bali! (I’m sure you can guess where the name came from…) An enormous Bernese Mountain dog, she’s an absolute sweetheart, and she certainly leaves her mark, not to mention her fur, on our place.
Hope to see you again soon,
