Hello lovely readers!
My first post with my new design! It’s still not quite finished, but I’m happy with where it’s heading. As much as I’d love to have it perfect the first time around, I have to be honest with myself that it’s just not going to happen. Things progress slowly on my blog, but I’m ok with that. My life is happily full (and very full with my first year of teaching) so I’m doing my best to be grateful with what I can accomplish.
On to the subject of this post- adding colour and comfort to your home! As much as I’d love to change up the décor of our home around the seasons, especially fall and winter to spring and summer, I unfortunately (like many of you I’m sure) do not have an endless supply of cash to do so. One day as I was making the bed, finishing it off with one of my scarves as I always do, I thought- what if a scarf could work just as well on a couch? If a scarf can finish off an outfit, why not a living space?
They work perfectly! Pashmina scarves give off the same warm and colourful feel of a Persian rug, without the commitment or high price tag.
I had a few textiles already (a couple throws I accumulated as wedding gifts and a soft faux-sheepskin rug from IKEA), and while subtle, these textiles make all the difference! Without textiles:
A much more interesting and layered space. It could still stand to have more I think, but I’m really happy with where it’s ending up. I added a red and purple one to my reading chaise (a departure from my usual grey and blue colour scheme),
And a pink one to our little white IKEA chair to tie in the pink from the photographs in the gallery wall:
The other thing I love about them is that scarves usually carry meaning for us too. That pink one was a gift from my mum, the red one a gift from a friend from Italy, the red one on the bed was purchased from a little family business in Indonesia (my scarf is the red one hanging on the right!),
and this silk blue one my friend managed to barter for on my behalf with his broken Mandarin to a silk shop owner in China.
I may never manage to bring treasures for our home in my travelling backpack, but now scarves do the trick.
Hope you enjoyed my little tip! I’d highly recommend it for a fun little accent in your place.
