Browsing other homes on the internet is one of my favourite pass times. It’s great to look at beautifully designed spaces, but seeing real homes brings so much more… More character, personality, charm… So much more inspiring because they’re simply more attainable!
Well, they are and they aren’t. With the wonderful exception of Apartment Therapy, most home blogs I come across are owned. What do you do if you live in one of the most expensive cities in the world? Or aren’t ready to buy a home? Or bounce from city to city?
Bring on the rented home tours! Feel free to share your own in the comments. I love to see what other renters have done to make the most of their space. To see a tour of our first apartment, click here. Keep scrolling to see where we’re at with our rented (top floor) home!
Here’s what our home looked like when we first found it back in March. I planned on taking a prettier photo in the summer, but with the drought my usually rainy city has had (Vancouver Canada), our green lawn is looking rather… Dead. I’ll hopefully have an update for you in the fall!
Our front yard
When you step inside, there is a small little entryway.
From there we have a small hallway that leads to our bedroom, the bathroom, a second bedroom (now office) and kitchen. Because I love to see how far a home has come, check out what it looked like when we first toured the place:
Here is some progress, but I still have more plans to make it a little bit neater.
Rug: Winners, dresser: thrifted, pulls: Target, mirror: Winners
On the left there’s our bedroom, which I promise to get to soon! In the meantime though, you can peak into our home central closets down the hall…
To the left of these is our bathroom. Here’s how it used to look…
(Why would anyone choose that red, mixed with the pink lino counter?? Yikes.)
And now that we painted it and added some above the door shelving.
Shelf: thrifted, bathmat: IKEA
Again, we have our office that I am just skipping over for the moment… (Though if you follow me on instagram you’ll know I am making some exciting progress!)
And here is our kitchen. I’m already so excited with how our laundry nook turned out! I still have a few more plans to kick this rented kitchen up a notch though…
Here’s how it looked when we first saw our new home:
And how it looks now that I turned the laundry space around:
Just outside, our patio is starting to take shape. I’d show you our backyard, but honestly… It’s really not worth it at the moment!
I haven’t done too much to our dining room yet, besides freshening up with some much needed paint, but I have some projects in the works!
Credenza: Craigslist, table and chairs: Craigslist, table cloth: handmade
(One day that awful lamp will go. Not everyone agrees with me, but it’s certainly a… conversation starter.)
Across from the dining area is our living room.
And here we are back at the entrance again.
So there you have it! Feel free to comment if you have any questions. I always like to hear from you! Check back often as I have so many more projects and ideas to keep making this home our own.
